The WEIMA WLK 2000 is the most powerful single-shaft shredder in the WLK series and is designed for the industrial shredding of large volumes of wood, paper, light metals and plastic waste from production processes. The focus is on large-format or thick-walled plastic parts, sheet offcuts and production waste that are to be further processed within operational cycles.

With a working width of 2,000 mm, tried-and-tested rotor variants and hydraulic feeding, this shredder delivers high throughput rates with controlled particle size. For large production sites and specialist recycling companies, the WEIMA shredder represents a robust solution for cost-effective waste shredding. Thanks to its industrial design and flexible integration into existing recycling solutions, the WLK 2000 ensures long-term process stability.

High cutting performance thanks to a solid V-rotor with an aggressive feed mechanism

Many of our customers describe the profiled V-rotor as a true all-rounder when it comes to shredding. With two rows of blades, the material feed is optimally designed. The V-rotor delivers high throughput, low energy consumption, reduced thermal stress and low wear costs.

Constant material feed via a load-dependent hydraulic slide valve

A consistent feed is crucial for stable shredding processes.
The horizontally operating hydraulic slide gate is automatically controlled by the control system based on the load. Optional serrated plates and hold-down devices improve the securing of bulky parts. An integrated shock valve protects the hydraulic cylinder from impact loads.
The result is a continuous feed of material, fewer blockages and an extended service life for the mechanical components.

Improved material feed for particularly large parts

Instead of traditional angular hoppers, WEIMA has for many years relied on a design that is rounded at the front. This has two key advantages: it increases the feed capacity. It also effectively prevents disruptive material bridges – which occur particularly with large parts. In this case, the shredder clears itself automatically.

Reproducible particle sizes thanks to a flexible, interchangeable screen

The desired final particle size is reliably determined by the screen.
Screw-mounted screens with different hole diameters can be used depending on the material and process. Smaller hole patterns produce correspondingly finer fractions.
This allows the comminution result to be precisely tailored to downstream processes such as briquetting, granulation or thermal recovery. On the WLK 2000 comminutor, the screen can be swivelled downwards. This facilitates access to the rotor and thus simplifies maintenance.

The interaction between the cutting blade and the counter-blade has a significant influence on material throughput and the shredding result. To maintain a perfect cutting gap even in the face of natural wear, the counter-blades in this series are manually adjustable and reversible. Thanks to optimal cutting geometry, the shredding process remains energy-efficient, wear costs are minimised and blade service life is significantly extended.

Flexible material discharge thanks to variable discharge solutions

The discharge system can be adapted to individual plant designs.
Depending on the frame design, extraction connections, discharge screws or conveyor belts are available. The interfaces are designed to allow for easy integration into existing conveyor systems.
This enables the shredded material to be transported on cleanly, continuously and reliably.

Reduced vibrations thanks to vibration-damping machine feet

Smooth operation improves operational reliability and flexibility of location.
Vibration-damping machine feet absorb any vibrations that occur and distribute the load evenly. Firm anchoring to the floor is not usually required.
This simplifies installation, reduces the transmission of vibrations to the surrounding area and enhances user comfort.

High drive power thanks to the robust WEIMA WAP gearbox

The drive is designed to withstand high loads during continuous operation.
The specially developed WAP gearbox is manufactured in our own production facilities and connected to a high-performance electric motor via V-belts. An integrated vibration damper protects against shock loads.
This design ensures high torque transmission, reduced wear and a long service life. A hydrodynamic start-up clutch is available as an option to provide further protection for the machine.

Controlled feeding of flexible materials using the F-rotor

The F-rotor really comes into its own, particularly when working with flexible materials such as filaments, films or veneer. Its controlled feed action, combined with precise cutting geometry, enables a powerful cut. This ensures high material throughput. The blade holders are firmly welded to the solid-material rotor. Cutting blades with edge lengths of 30 or 40 mm are also reversible.

Flexible control for varying material flows

Stable process control is crucial for cost-effective continuous operation.
The WLK 2000 is equipped with a Siemens PLC featuring a touchscreen display. Slider movements, cycle times and load limits are precisely controlled. An integrated overload protection system continuously monitors the machine load and intervenes automatically in the event of critical conditions.
In industrial applications, this ensures reproducible operating conditions, minimised downtime and protection of the drive and cutting mechanism.

Extended bearing service life thanks to a stepped rotor bearing design

The rotor bearing is designed to withstand high mechanical loads.
Its recessed design protects it from dust and foreign particles. At the same time, it remains easily accessible from the outside for maintenance work.
This extends service life, reduces unplanned downtime and facilitates maintenance in continuous industrial operation.

Even higher throughput with turbo-hydraulics

The shredder’s slide is moved back and forth hydraulically. With the turbo-hydraulic system, this is done even faster. An additional oil cooling system and a length measurement system are available as options for continuous operation.

In this video, we demonstrate the shredding of waste from firewood production using the WEIMA WLK 2000 single-shaft shredder. The operation is powered sustainably by solar energy and a combined heat and power (CHP) plant. The wood chips produced are used as fuel for a wood chip heating system, which supplies heat to the drying chambers. A Steiner screw conveyor efficiently transports the material from the shredder to the heating system – creating a closed, energy-efficient recycling loop.
