Reliably Processed Substitute Fuel: Euro-Eko Relies on WEIMA Technology and TEKOpro’s Project Expertise

With a new production line for high- and medium-calorific substitute fuels, Euro-Eko in Poland is expanding its capacity for industrial fuel supply—particularly for calciner applications. The entire plant was designed and implemented by WEIMA partner TEKOpro® of Warsaw. TEKOpro® handled the entire project chain: from technical design and the delivery of all machinery to installation, commissioning, and future service.

Objective: To efficiently convert high-calorific-value waste into secondary fuel

The project focuses on finding practical uses for high-calorific-value fractions that are not suitable for high-quality material recycling. This waste has significant energy content but does not meet the quality requirements for further processing within conventional recycling processes. Mechanical processing produces a stable, well-defined substitute fuel that can replace fossil fuels such as coal in industrial processes. At the same time, this solves a waste disposal problem: without specialized processing, these fractions would be difficult to utilize economically.

WEIMA W8.30 PreCut Pre-Shredder and W8.30 PowerLine Post-Shredder at Euro-Eko in Poland

At the heart of the line is a two-stage shredding process featuring a WEIMA W8.30 PreCut for pre-shredding and a WEIMA W8.30 PowerLine for achieving a defined final particle size. Powered by high-performance Hägglunds hydraulic systems, the process produces a uniform alternative fuel with a reproducible calorific value.

The result: a modern, well-designed processing line that efficiently converts high-calorific-value waste into fuel fractions of defined quality—as a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels.

Two-step shredding: WEIMA W8.30 PreCut and PowerLine

A key component of the new system is WEIMA’s two-stage shredding technology. At the start of the process, a WEIMA W8.30 PreCut single-shaft shredder handles the pre-shredding. The machine is designed for high throughput and processes the heterogeneous input material to a defined size that is ideally suited for subsequent sorting and conveying lines.

Hydraulic direct drives from HÄGGLUNDS for both shredders

The second stage involves a WEIMA W8.30 PowerLine shredder, which reduces the material to the final particle size required for fuel production. Both machines are powered by reliable Hägglunds hydraulic drives—each with an output of 355 kW. The hydraulic drives provide high torque, low-resistance start-up, and robust process stability, even with demanding or variable feedstock.

This combination of PreCut and PowerLine is widely used in secondary fuel production because it ensures consistent output quality – a key factor for calciners, cement plants, and waste-to-energy facilities.

Synergy Among International Technology Partners

In addition to WEIMA, the participating manufacturers include Spaleck GmbH & Co. KG and Westeria® GmbH. Together, the components used form a coordinated processing chain that combines crushing, sorting, and material transport. TEKOpro® coordinates all machines and processes to ensure that the end result is a uniform fuel with reproducible particle size and a defined calorific value—a prerequisite for stable combustion and calcination processes.

Well-designed plant logistics for trouble-free operation

During implementation, special attention was paid to the spatial layout of the production hall. The layout was designed to ensure that material flows and traffic routes are optimally aligned. A 31-meter-long conveyor belt forms the backbone of the material transport system. Its position and height were precisely adapted to the hall’s geometry, taking into account structural constraints such as columns and height limitations. Power is supplied by two separate power packs: one generator is located outside the hall to reduce noise and heat input, while a second one is inside to directly power the machines. The logistics were also designed so that two to three loaders can operate simultaneously without interfering with one another. The clearly separated travel paths ensure a steady input of materials and a safe workflow.
