PLASTICS Sustainability & Recycling Committee visits WEIMA America, Inc. Headquarters

plastic 20. October 2023

As a leader in size reduction equipment for the plastics industry, WEIMA was excited to welcome the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) Sustainability & Recycling Committee to its North American headquarters. The plant visit was part of the committee's fall retreat, which was held on October 18-19, 2024, in the neighboring city of Charlotte, North Carolina.

Like minds come together

The PLASTICS Recycling & Sustainability Committee holds educational retreats twice a year-- once in the spring and once in the fall. This year, the fall retreat was held in Charlotte, North Carolina-- just around the corner from WEIMA's North American headquarters. It kicked off with engaging tours of local manufacturing operations dedicated to creating quality machinery to aid in the plastic recycling process. Attendees got an inside look at the machinery that makes it all possible, including optical sorting equipment at nearby Pellenc America and size reduction equipment at WEIMA America, Inc.

It all starts with shredding

WEIMA's primary and secondary shredders, known nationwide for their efficiency, were the stars of the show. These shredders play a crucial role in recycling, processing both post-industrial and post-consumer plastic scrap with precision. WEIMA's goal is clear: provide manufacturers and recyclers with state-of-the-art, in-plant shredding machinery to make recycling easier and reduce waste sent to landfills.

The retreat included informative plant tours, allowing attendees to see WEIMA's impressive machinery up close. People had the chance to chat with WEIMA experts, asking questions and gaining valuable insights into their machinery.

Like minds come together

The day wrapped up with a lively gathering in WEIMA's beautiful beer garden area behind their facility. Attendees enjoyed local beer from The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery around the fire pit, fostering connections and sharing ideas in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The Carolina weather was perfect for this event, and the conversation was even better.

We enjoyed meeting the PLASTICS Sustainability & Recycling Committee members, and we hope to see many of these faces again in the Recycling Zone at NPE2024!
