Horizontal WEIMA shredder for long wood waste

Horizontal shredder

Shredder for long waste - ideal for automation

The biggest difference between classic shredders and horizontal shredders concerns the material feed. Instead of a hydraulic pusher, an extra-long vibrating chute is used - with a decisive advantage: it is ideal for feeding particularly long waste such as strips, squared timber, profiles or pipe material.

How does a horizontal shredder work?

Horizontal shredders from WEIMA are characterized by an efficient material feed system in which vibrating chutes or inclined feeders transport the material to the feed roller, which conveys it horizontally to the rotor. The V-rotor, equipped with hardened cutting knives, shreds the material between the rotor and counter knives until it reaches the desired particle size, which is defined by a replaceable round hole screen.

The shredded material is then discharged via a suction unit or screw conveyor. An electric motor with V-belt drive provides the powerful rotor movement, while a Siemens PLC control system precisely monitors and adjusts the processes to ensure optimum results.

Material feed: Horizontal, with vibrating chute or inclined?

The horizontal infeed with vibrating chute offers a continuous and automated material feed that can be ideally integrated into existing production lines and is particularly efficient for long materials such as strips, profiles or pipes. The inclined infeed, on the other hand, is ideal for manual feeding, as it facilitates the handling of long and bulky materials and allows flexible use when automated feeding is not required.

Both systems offer specific advantages depending on the requirements of the application, allowing them to be individually adapted to different work processes.

Seamless integration into production lines

Horizontal shredders are usually placed manually, directly next to the machine, in order to feed it there. However, they also have everything necessary for fully automated production operation. WEIMA’s horizontal shredders are extremely compact and robust, ideally equipped for networking thanks to state-of-the-art data interfaces, and very user-friendly to maintain.

Advantages of horizontal shredder technology

Horizontal shredders offer significant advantages over classic single-shaft shredders with pusher technology and a vertical hopper – especially when processing bulky materials such as strips, profiles or pipes. Due to their length, they can protrude from the hopper and, in the worst case, jump out due to vibrations.

Thanks to the horizontal material feed via a vibrating chute or an inclined infeed, feeding is continuous and efficient without the need for a pusher system to transport the material to the rotor. In addition, there is no need for a vertical hopper, which facilitates integration into existing production lines and represents a space-saving solution.
