Wood waste? Shred it up!

WEIMA's hopper-fed and horizontal wood shredders are designed to handle large volumes of wood waste, making them ideal for woodshops and other wood processing facilities. The range of machinery WEIMA has to offer the wood industry is vast. One size does not fit all, especially when it comes to wood applications. Bulky furniture, pallets, and crates need to be shredded using machines with larger infeed hoppers. Smaller wood scrap, like blocks and end cuts, may still require robust machinery but may not need a large hopper design. No matter the size of the scrap, WEIMA offers the right machine for the job.

When positioned correctly, WEIMA wood shredders can not only save valuable floor space within a plant but can also create an additional source of revenue. Incorporating environmentally friendly technology into a woodworking business can be both financially and environmentally beneficial, especially when the machinery is sized and placed appropriately.

Introducing the WL 4: Compact and robust

The WL 4 single-shaft shredder will be operating in WEIMA's booth. This machine is known for its reliability, durability, and efficiency.

The WEIMA WL 4 is a compact and efficient wood shredder for a variety of applications. It boasts a 600 mm working width and features a rotor made of solid material. This shredder also includes a perforated screen that can be manually adjusted to define the size of the chips produced, as well as a log-spacer hopper design that prevents materials from bridging.

Linear wood waste shredding

The horizontally-fed wood waste shredders are versatile machines that can efficiently shred profiles, rippings, and other linear waste. The machines are equipped with vibratory infeed conveyors that encourage the material toward the rotor for optimal throughput.

These machines can be located next to machinery in such a way that the wood waste falls onto the vibratory infeed conveyor without an employee having to move it manually. This saves on labor and time and can eliminate the need to move wood waste around the plant to a centrally located shredder.

WEIMA's wood waste shredders are the go-to solution for wood shops and lumber manufacturers, thanks to the range of series and rotor variants available. No matter the type of wood waste, whether it's pallets, timber, chipboard, MDF boards, stairs, window frames, furniture, doors, or semi-finished wood products, WEIMA's shredders efficiently and effectively turn bulky scrap into reusable commodities.

Once the wood is shredded, it can be easily discharged from the workstation using a belt conveyor, screw auger, or a pneumatic discharge system, effectively creating a hands-free process.

Lumbermill utilizes WEIMA wood shredder for energy production

Check out this story about an installation in Alabama! The production of dimensional lumber yields off-cuts that can be repurposed for energy by using a shredder to take it down to a smaller particle size.

The benefits of wood shredding

Shredding wood waste at the source can offer numerous advantages. One of the primary benefits is the space savings it provides in production facilities. Bulky wood scrap can take up a lot of valuable floor space, which can be better utilized for more productive activities. Additionally, companies often have to pay for the transport of this material by the truckload, regardless of its weight. By shredding this waste, companies can maximize the space in dumpsters and minimize the number of truckloads needed, which creates an immediate opportunity for a return on investment.

Save space, energy, and money through briquetting!

Wood-related manufacturing processes often produce dust and shavings as natural byproducts, which can create messy or hazardous environments in production areas. However, these materials can often be compressed into briquettes that are easier to handle and transport throughout a facility.

WEIMA's briquette presses are designed to create these briquettes, which are typically shaped like hockey pucks and made using only hydraulic pressure. This process does not require the use of glues or binders, making the resulting briquettes suitable for burning as energy sources in facilities that utilize boilers for heat production. This is an excellent way to reduce energy costs, which can be especially beneficial in light of rising fuel prices.

Sustainability in action on the show floor

As part of the Destroy Responsibly™ program, WEIMA will be featuring an outdoor demonstration area. The team will be running a large hopper-fed single-shaft shredder, which will process wood waste generated from demonstrations on the show floor. This initiative is WEIMA's way of ensuring that the event remains sustainable.
