In addition to the electromechanical drive with belt or WAP gearbox and the hydraulic drive, the high-torque drive is a powerful drive option for WEIMA shredders that has proven itself with customers all over the world.
The high-torque drive used by WEIMA comes from Baumüller. As a specialist in the recycling sector, WEIMA relies on close cooperation with Baumüller, a leading provider of innovative drive technologies. This partnership enables WEIMA to offer powerful and reliable shredding solutions for demanding applications.
The high-torque, multi-pole synchronous motor is produced in Germany and is characterized by its insensitivity to foreign bodies. Without a gearbox, the drive withstands shocks and vibrations and therefore has a particularly long service life – even when shredding challenging material flows. In addition, a coupling between the rotor shaft and drive protects the motor from damage and can stop the rotor immediately if foreign objects enter the cutting chamber. The torque and speed can be precisely adjusted via a frequency converter to achieve optimum results in terms of throughput and quality of the shredded material.
“The biggest advantage of the motor is its energy efficiency.”
Stefan Roth
Machine Engineer at WEIMA
By using direct drive technology, energy consumption can be reduced by up to 30 percent. In addition, the drive is very easy to regulate and control. As the speed decreases, the torque increases – an enormous advantage for the shredding process. The low noise level also speaks in favor of the drive from Baumüller.
High-torque drive by Baumüller
A belt is used for the transmission of the direct drive, which transfers the power to the rotor and thus drives the cutting unit. Due to the connection of the rotor shaft via the belt, the Baumüller motor must be able to absorb radial forces of up to 40,000 N. This can be easily guaranteed thanks to a special bearing and the corresponding validation based on vibration measurements. In this way, vibrations can be compensated for and maintenance costs greatly minimized. The high-torque motor is ideal for shredding systems due to its good concentricity properties.
