Granulators

Efficient secondary shredders for plastics recycling

Granulators, also known as granulators, are key technologies in plastics processing and recycling. They shred plastic waste such as sprues, rejects, film and profiles into uniform particles that are ideal for recycling or further processing. Their robust design and high efficiency make them indispensable for sustainable waste management.

These machines are usually used as secondary shredders in multi-stage recycling plants. Pre-shredded material is granulated to the desired final size. Granulators score points with their high rotor speeds, maintenance-friendly design and high throughput. Common areas of application are slides, container, thin-walled pipes, profiles, bumpers, injection molding waste and thermoformed parts.

How does a granulator work?

A large feed hopper allows both manual feeding and feeding by conveyor belt. In the grinding chamber, the material to be shredded is caught by the rotating knives of the granulator. The highly effective V-cut technology with double diagonal cut ensures that the material to be ground is shredded efficiently and particularly finely. The material is ground against the stationary stator knives until it is small enough to fall through the granulator’s bottom-mounted sieve. This sieve defines the particle size and ensures a uniform end product.

After crushing, the granulated material is collected and ready for further processing. This process guarantees an optimal material flow and consistently high product quality, making granulators an indispensable tool for efficient plastics recycling.

High cutting performance thanks to shear cut

Granulators offer precise and powerful cutting performance. Different rotor variants enable optimum adaptation to the respective material. The cutting blades are arranged at an angle to the stator blade so that they work in a scissor cut. This targeted cutting gap extends across the entire working width of the machine.

Thanks to this technology, a homogeneous and even grind is produced. The scissor cut also reduces the noise level during operation. This ensures a pleasant working environment and protects the machine at the same time.

Where are granulators used?

Pelletizers are versatile and are ideal for processing a wide range of materials. They can reliably granulate pre-shredded plastics such as pipes, automotive parts or blow molding products, including PET and PP/PE bottles, canisters and buckets. Flexible materials such as slides can also be shredded efficiently
