Production waste from wood processing does not necessarily incur high disposal costs. On the contrary, waste wood has enormous potential for energy recovery. A British furniture manufacturer, which produces large quantities of wood waste every day from offcuts, rejects, and various processing operations, recognized this opportunity.
Instead of disposing of the material at great expense, the company opted for a sustainable approach: shredding the waste wood into usable wood chips, which are then used as fuel for biomass heating.
In Alsenz, Rhineland-Palatinate, extraordinary pieces of furniture are created from a special raw material: used barrique barrels. In a complex process, the curved oak parts are steamed, pressed, dried, and then processed into high-quality furniture. To make efficient use of these residual materials, the company relies on shredding and briquetting technology from WEIMA.
