It's a Wrap on AWFS 2015! - WEIMA returned with a green spin to this woodworking show!
The Association of Wood Furniture Suppliers, or AWFS, returned to Las Vegas with its biennial trade show in late July. Despite soaring temperatures outside, the show floor was full to the brim with machinery suppliers and woodworkers alike, all eager to learn more about recent innovations within the wood industry.
WEIMA returned both as an exhibitor and as the Official Recycling Sponsor for AWFS 2015. WEIMA’s Destroy Responsibly program has become an important part of the trade show over the years. Historically, wood waste from the show is sorted and shredded on-site and donated to an area nature reserve or garden.
This year was no different. Throughout the span of the trade show, 54 dumpsters of particleboard were processed by a WEIMA WLK13 hopper-fed shredder, as well as 7 dumpsters of solid wood. The shredded solid wood was donated via an organization called Repurpose America to a local University of Las Vegas garden space.
“Giving back to the Las Vegas community is key for us,” said Audrey Brewer, WEIMA America’s marketing manager. “We take the role of the Official Recycling Partner of AWFS very seriously. We are honored to do our part to help the AWFS Fair go green!”
Another organization was at the show as well to pick up any solid pieces of wood that could be carved into children’s toys. Toys for Smiles Las Vegas was grateful to have received this wood in order to create little wooden cars for donation. Their mission, according to their website, is to bring a smile to the face of any child who receives one of their toys, while “unlocking a child’s ability to think, to be creative, and to cope with the world around them.” WEIMA was excited to donate some wood to such a wonderful organization!
Meanwhile on the show floor, the WEIMA booth was steady with visitors. The WMIA Distributor of the Year trophy was on display in the booth, as well as five machines—a horizontal shredder, two hopper-fed shredders, and two briquette presses. This trade show is thriving, and WEIMA is excited to be a part of it for years to come.
