AWFS Fair recycling program shreds wood scrap for Las Vegas nonprofit

AWFS Fair’s recycling program reduced bulk waste from trade show exhibitors, once sent to landfill, by a 6-to-1 ratio and shredded wood scrap into ground cover for Gilcrease Nature Sanctuary, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit that provides a safe haven for animals that live in the wild.

The recycling program was a cooperative effort between Weima America, the Las Vegas Convention Center and AWFS show general contractor, Freeman. Weima America provided the show with a WL13 shredding system, which ground demonstration wood scrap and discarded exhibitors' shipping and packaging materials. "Destroy Responsibly" billboards were located throughout the convention center during the show and attendees could view the shredder in the Central Machinery Hall.

Fair attendees could see the shredder recyling wood scrap into ground cover.

“Everyone really got behind the program this year,” said Angelo Gangone, executive vice president, AWFS. “As an industry, we are committed to reducing waste, and the recycling program at the show gives us a way to help deserving non profits as well.”
