K 2013 Trade Show Highlights
For this year’s K trade show in Düsseldorf, Germany, WEIMA will be presenting the all-new WLK 800 as part of its newest single-shaft shredder series for plastic applications. The current generation of the proven Spider 1500 shredder with an innovative drive concept will also be on display.
Finally the time has come! The leading trade show for the plastic and rubber industry starts in October. Many things have changed since the last K-Show in 2010. But one thing remains: WEIMA will present the newest innovations of industrial shredding technology.

Professional visitors from all over the world can look forward to the brand new WLK 800 shredder by WEIMA. The basic model of the new designed WLK series (WLK 800, 1000, 1500 and 2000) is equipped with an energy-efficient electronic drive.
The machines are used to shred all kinds of plastic, especially hard and resistant materials such as lumps, pipes or automotive parts, but also blow-moulding materials like PET bottles, PE/PP bottles, buckets and cans.
Material is fed into the newly-designed “pipespacer” hopper, which makes it possible to shred large parts without bridging. The ram that pushes the material against the rotor is guided by a segmented floor.
The feed motion is load-dependent to prevent an overload of the shredder. An in-house developed gearbox suspension leads to smoother shock absorption which reduces maintenance costs. As a result of a swiveling screen basket, it is now easier to get access to the rotor, making preventative maintenance easier and more cost-effective.
Another improvement is the revised counter knife system. The counter knives can now be rotated, which adds to the life of the knives. In addition, the enhanced cutting geometry leads to energy-efficient shredding and minimum wear costs.
The new generation of WLK universal single-shaft shredders is mass-produced. Customers benefit from significantly cheaper manufacturing costs, lowering the cost of the shredder.
A further tradeshow highlight is the Spider 1500 H single-shaft shredder. In contrast to the WLK 800, the shredder comes with a newly developed hydraulic drive by Hägglunds - Bosch Rexroth with 110 kW.
Due to the fact that there is no gearbox, it is very resistant to foreign objects. A major advantage is that a maximum torque can be driven over the entire speed range. The rotational speed is infinitely variable, making a frequency converter unnecessary.
When it comes to energy-efficiency, the hydraulic drive is extremely advantageous. In comparison to conventional drives, significantly less energy is needed because of lower driving power. Besides, there are no power peaks when changing the direction of rotation.
The hydraulic drive unit is set up completely in a “power pack”. This not only saves space but also ensures a flexible installation and easier maintenance.

Apart from that, the shredder being exhibited is equipped with a larger rotor diameter and a newly designed ram position sensor. Unlike the prior models, it is contact-free. This means that no mechanical load or faults caused by foreign material appear. The ram itself is guided on rolls with spring-mounted roller blocks.
