Tissue Manufacturer Uses WEIMA Machinery to Utilize Waste and Increase Profits
Nestled in the rolling hills of North Carolina (USA) is a tissue manufacturing plant that will take your breath away at first glance. This state-of-the-art facility is over one million square feet and operates around the clock producing large quantities of tissue and paper towels. This particular plant prides itself in being safe, profitable, and environmentally friendly. In order to reach these goals, a WEIMA WLK 13 single-shaft shredder and a TH 714 briquette press were installed.

Throughout the process of manufacturing tissue and other paper products, there are occasionally damaged rolls, rejects, and waste of other kinds. This is where the WEIMA machinery comes into play. The damaged material and other tissue waste is fed into the WEIMA WLK 13 shredder via an infeed conveyor. The material is then shredded and reintroduced into their pulping process in order to utilize their waste stream. This particular WEIMA shredder features a rotor that is 368mm in diameter with a V-rotor design. The V-rotor is ptimal for the cutting of tissue, logs, slab, and cookies.

The WEIMA TH 714 briquette press, which is situated right beside the shredder, plays a very important role in keeping the facility clean and safe. A dust collection system was installed in the baler room, which feeds the briquette press throughout the day. As dust is collected, it is processed within the enclosed briquette press, eliminating flammable dust within the plant. The dust is then compacted into briquettes using only pressure and no adhesives. These briquettes are 70mm in diameter and are then able to be discarded in a safer and much cleaner way than traditional, non-compacted dust disposal.
